ARMY TECHNICAL WARRANT OFFICER PROGRAM (ATWO) - CALL LETTER FOR APPLICATIONS - 2009/2010 ACADEMIC YEAR

- The army vision states quote using progressive doctrine, realistic training and leading-edge technologies, the army will be a knowledge-based and command-centric institution capable of continuous adaptation and task-tailoring across the spectrum of conflict unquote. Through the ATWO, the army is committed to developing an NCM corps that is fully engaged in the exploitation of new technology in the land forces and influencing the army of tomorrow.
- Aim. The army technical warrant officers program (ATWO) incorporates education and training to develop critical thinking, management and technology competencies and skills. The programme produces graduates with a broad-based knowledge of science and technology and the competency to apply that knowledge to the operational and training needs of the army. The programme provides a solid academic science foundation and then develops the capability to apply the management and technology knowledge within military staff and operational contexts. The emphasis is on the practical application of technology and management skills to meet military requirements and therefore the development of critical thinking, analytical decision-making techniques and staff skills are a core element.
- A total of 8 positions are available at RMC. Through the chain of command, Career Managers, Branch Advisors and Commanding Officers are requested to ensure that suitable and high potential applicants are contacted and strongly encouraged to apply. Individual applicants should also identify themselves to their Commanding Officers and Career Managers. Each MOSID is asked to submit its best files to a maximum of four.
- Prerequisites for the ATWO are:
- Army WO or MWO
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Above average oral and written communication skills
- Have obtained a balance of field and staff experience as determined by respective branch advisors
- Be considered suitable for tech staff and capability development employment. In particular the individual will have demonstrated an interest and aptitude commensurate with tech staff environment and will possess sufficient field experience to relate the technologies to military applications.
- Level two security clearance or the ability to obtain one by the start of the course
- The following background is desirable:
- Possess the potential to reach the next rank
- Student has at least four years as a WO
- A minimum linguistic profile of BBB
- Application must include a CO's letter of recommendation containing:
- The MOSID, SN, name, initials and state whether the member meets each prerequisite
- Summary of member's military performance and potential to reach the next rank.
- Summary of the member s personal and academic suitability with specific comments on the individual s motivation and ability to handle a heavy workload
- Copy of all secondary and post-secondary academic transcripts
- Recommendation of overall suitability and future employment
- Deadline: Applications must be submitted by respective career managers to G1 succession (DLPM 7-2) NLT 03 Nov 08
- Selection. A selection board will be convened on 27 Nov 08 at NDHQ Ottawa to confirm candidates selection
