Royal Military College Names Women's Basketball Coach
06-July-2010
KINGSTON - The Royal Military College of Canada announced today that James Bambury will take over as head coach of its women's basketball team.
Bambury hails from Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, where he began his playing and coaching career. James went onto Queens University, where he played for three seasons from 2000-2003 while completing his undergraduate degree.
Bambury has spent the past three years with the Leeds Carnegie Basketball program, a university-based club team at Leeds Metropolitan University, in the United Kingdom. He took over the women's program in late October 2008.
"We are very excited to have James lead our women's basketball program," said Darren Cates, RMC Director of Athletics. "James is very passionate about the sport and brings in a wealth of international experience. Having coached women's basketball at the international level, James will help tremendously in leading RMC to the next level".
"The opportunity to work with such great individuals at RMC, both on and off of the court, is an honour", said Bambury. "It will be a great challenge to compete in the OUA, and after having coached in England with and against some of the best players and coaches Great Britain has to offer, I know what it takes to ensure we will be prepared to get better every single day. I look forward to the challenges of the seasons to come".
Bambury officially begins at RMC on July 7th, taking over from previous coach Brad Schur. The RMC women's basketball team opens their season at home on November 5th against the University of Waterloo.
Royal Military College Women's Basketball Coach Steps Down
17-May-2010
Brad Schur, women's basketball coach at RMC for the past eight seasons, announced today that he is stepping down from his current position.
He has been fully involved in the introduction and development of women's basketball at RMC since the team's inception in 2002, though the team admittedly didn't enjoy the kind of success on the court that he would have wanted.
"Brad will be sorely missed", added Darren Cates, RMC Athletic Director. "Brad built the women's basketball program at RMC and we truly appreciate his commitment to the team and the school. We wish him all the best in the future".
Schur is an RMC graduate, having played for the men's basketball team from 1994-1998. He also served as an assistant coach with the men's team from 1998-2002.
The search for his replacement will begin immediately.
