Dr. Mariya Marinova, Dr. Barbara Zeeb and Dr. Frank Zeman will collaborate with researchers from Czech Republic, Germany, Ukraine, and USA in the frame of the project “Mitigation of climate change through advanced phytotechnology for military lands”. The main goal is to regenerate former military sites while mitigating climate change by implementing advanced Miscathus x giganteus phytotechnology on complex contaminated military lands in Ukraine. The physicochemical conversion of biomass waste to ensure by-product valorization will also be considered.

The project is led by Dr. Valentina Pidlisnyuk from Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Usti nad Labem (Czech Republic).

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is leading sub-project 3: “Valorization of by-products from gasification and pyrolysis”. The main activities of the sub-project are: (i) conversion of syngas and bio-oil into value-added products, (ii) metal recovery/stabilization from impacted biochar.

The project officially started on 27 September 2023 for a duration of three years. Additional information can be found on the project website: https://milclimatech.wasten.cz/
