Dr Bennett est technologue et professeur associé (sessional) au département de physique et de sciences spatiales du Collège militaire royal du Canada.

Dr Bennett a publié des articles évalués par des pairs dans les domaines de la science spatiale, de la science des matériaux, et de la dosimétrie des rayonnements, ainsi que dans l'histoire et la philosophie de la science.

Il a également participé à l'enseignement à distance et à l'élaboration de programmes d'études au CMR et à l'université de Western Ontario.

Dr Bennett a obtenu son doctorat en histoire et philosophie des sciences (University of Western Ontario, 1999).  Sa thèse portait sur le rôle central de Johannes Kepler dans le développement de l'astronomie héliocentrique et de l'astrophysique des débuts de l'ère moderne.

Les autres centres d'intérêt sont : musique, la randonnée, et la science-fiction.
