This SOP lays out the process to provide options for the delivery of English as a Second Language (ESL).
1. Context
There is an extremely low number of students requiring English as Second Language (ESL) classes. The Language Centre (LC) at RMC presents the following options to students requiring ESL in the future.
2. Options
The RMC LC has a few French teachers with E level in English who are able to teach ESL at a B level, which is the graduation requirement.
Below are the other potential options that LC can also offer:
2.1. Online classes during regular fall and winter academic semesters provided by an ESL teacher from another CAF language school. This option will be coordinated between RMC/LC and SOLET Operations managers.
2.2. Immersion-style ESL Summer SOLET in addition to ESL as currently taught at RMC. This option will be coordinated between RMC/LC, RMC Training Wing and SOLET Operations managers.
2.3. Online classes during regular fall and winter academic semesters via a partnership with RMC Saint-Jean. This option will be coordinated between RMC/LC and the Language Department at RMC Saint-Jean.
3. Process
3.1. Students registered in ESL – i.e. students who did not reach BBB in English via their placement testing at RMC – will have access to these options upon request, as indicated in the official RMC Calendar.
3.2. Because ESL students do not have allocated SOLET periods in their schedule, the training slots will be determined on a case-by-case basis depending on each student’s schedule and the availability of the ESL teacher. The aim will be to provide the same number of hours of training as FSL.
3.3. Requests must be sent via email to the management of the RMC LC.
