RMC and the 2021 Virtual Workshops and Symposia of the International Society of Military Sciences (ISMS)

2021-08-24

The ISMS Workshops and Symposia will be held entirely online and offsite from the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) in Kingston, from October 11 to 14, 2021. Details available here: International Society of Military Sciences Home

The ISMS builds a network for the creation, development, exchange and diffusion of research and knowledge about war, conflict management and peace support efforts.

This year’s event theme is Progress in Military Sciences for Resilience and Cohesion in the Face of New Forms of Disruption. Thomas Homer-Dixon—author of Commanding Hope: The Power we Have to Renew a World in Peril – will be the keynote speaker on climate security on October 12, 2021.

The Canadian Armed Forces’ participation to the ISMS helps by leveraging knowledge, doing more than we can do by ourselves, and supports the Canadian Defence Academy’s Canadian Forces College, and Royal Military College Saint-Jean.

RMC is an intellectual engine for innovation in security thinking, through international connections, responding to disruption and building national cohesion and resilience in uncertain times.

ISMS has been meeting annually since 2008, and RMC last hosted the conference in 2012. RMC’s Principal, Dr. Harry Kowal, assumed the presidency of ISMS after the virtual conference hosted by the National Defence University of Finland in 2020.
