10^th Technological & Pedagogical Innovation in Education Forum. (TPIEF)

On Monday May 6^th 2019, RMC held its 10^th Technological & Pedagogical Innovation in Education Forum. The forum was opened with welcoming remarks from the Commandant of RMC, Brigadier-General Sébastien Bouchard, followed by the Principal, Dr. Harry Kowal and the Dean of Continuing Studies, Dr. Grazia (Grace) Scoppio. The keynote speaker was Mr. Peter Wolf who provided “A Snapshot of Distance Education and Technology-Enhanced Learning at RMC”. In his address he outlined the current state and potential for the future of distance learning at RMC. This was followed by a Round Table discussion on “Dual Delivery at RMC: Positives, Pitfalls and Possibilities”.

A coffee break provided the opportunity for attendees to network and browse through a vast selection of books made available by the Canadian Defence Academy Press Book. Following the break, attendants had a choice of participating in one of three breakout workshops which covered a wide array of topics, including: an interactive session by Dr. Frédérique Offredi on “The 88 Keys for identifying problems in logic and expression on thought in texts”; a session facilitated by Dr. Lobna Cherif titled “What box? Think Positive!” which had participants dancing in the aisles; and an open discussion moderated by Mrs. Sarah Toomey on “Where do I start my library research? – How to answer that inevitable undergraduate question”. The final two sessions of the forum, touched on “Innovations in Military Education”; Maj Geneviève Audet presented “Distance Learning for the Signals Corps” and Maj Justin E.P. Behiels presented “Master Teacher Programs (MTP’s)”.

74 participants from Royal Military College of Canada (RMC), Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre Headquarters (CADTC HQ), Canadian Defence Academy (CDA), Canadian Army Command and Staff College (CACSC), Canadian Army Advanced Warfare Centre, Canadian Forces College (CFC), Canadian Forces Schools of Communications and Electronics (CFSCE), and Royal Military College Saint-Jean (RMC) attended the forum.

The event gave attendees insights into some of the possibilities of distance learning, and how they could be integrated into classrooms at RMC and, through the workshops, gave them some tools to increase their productivity.

Departmental Medal for the Bachelor of Military Arts and Science (BMASc) Programmes

The Division of Continuing Studies is pleased to announce the Departmental Medal for BMASc and BMASc Honours to be awarded for the first time at the May 2019 Convocation. The medal will be awarded to the graduating student standing highest in the programme, chosen amongst the June 2018, November 2018 and May 2019 graduates, providing an overall average of A- or better has been earned by the recipient.
