Commandant's Statement Regarding the Royal Military College of Canada's Directive Regarding the Prevention of
Harmful and Inappropriate Sexual Behaviour

The Royal Military College has published a comprehensive policy on the prevention of Harmful and Inappropriate Sexual Behaviour. This new College Standing Order aims to foster a positive culture that promotes respect for every individual and ensures a College-wide environment that is free from harassment, discrimination and sexual violence.

This new policy builds on the Canadian Armed Forces' mission to eliminate harmful and inappropriate sexual behavior throughout the military. It is a significant milestone in the Royal Military College’s commitment to the continued promotion of a culture that encourages respectful behavior, prevents sexual violence, and maintains a safe environment where students, faculty and staff can learn and work. As the Royal Military College is an associate member of the Council of Ontario Universities, this policy also reflects the provisions of Ontario Bill C-132, Sexual Violence at Colleges and Universities under the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Act.

As we educate and develop the leaders of tomorrow, the Royal Military College is at the forefront of establishing and reinforcing the number one ethical principle of the Canadian Armed Forces -- respecting the dignity of all persons. We are committed to the continued provision of an environment that encourages respectful behavior, prevents sexual violence, and maintains a safe workplace for everyone. ‎
