Military personnel at the Royal Military College of Canada were challenged by the Commandant, Brig.-Gen. Sean Friday, to make time in their schedule on October 21, 2016, to engage in some physical activity for the 4th Annual CAF Sports Day. “Setting the example of enjoying physical activity and promoting fitness is important for all military personnel at RMC,” he said. “It is essential for strengthening physical fitness, building esprit de corps, and enhancing the morale of a unit.” Civilian staff and faculty were also welcomed to join their military colleagues.
Those that accepted the challenge enjoyed various sports such as swimming, badminton, soccer, and yoga. Brig.-Gen Sean Friday himself joined the Officer Cadets in their Supplementary Physical Training led by RMC PSP staff, demonstrating the importance of leadership from the front. RMC Physical Education classes, such as volleyball, basketball, strength and conditioning, and squash were also open for all military personnel to join.
The CAF Sports Day at RMC provided an important reminder of the tremendous operational and health related benefits of making regular physical activity and fitness the norm for everyone in uniform. It was a great opportunity to celebrate the power of sport and all it can do to promote the culture of fitness in the CAF.
