Dr. Hill joined the MPL department in 2008 after 8 years in a variety of postings as a Defence Scientist with DRDC CORA. She holds a doctoral degree in Social Psychology and a Master's degree in Personality and Psychometrics from Queen's University. Her doctoral work looked at leadership in university settings, and asked the question "In an environment where everyone is arguably a leader, are there overt distinctions between individuals that differentiate between top leaders and others?". (The answer, briefly stated, is yes.) As a Defence Scientist, Dr. Hill studied a variety of issues on behalf of the CAF and DND, ranging from a study of corporate culture at National Defence Headquarters to an examination of how new technology deployed in the field is actually used by human operators. She continues to contribute to the education of CAF members outside RMC by means of guest lectures and research projects sponsored by various organizations throughout the CAF. Dr. Hill's current research interests include assessment of military operations, trust, identity formation in military organizations, and practical applications of ethical concepts to the research enterprise.
