Major Neil Cameron enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces on 18 June 1994 under the Regular Officer Training Program. He graduated from the Royal Military College in Kingston with a Bachelors of Engineering (Mechanical) in 1999. Upon completion of his Armour phase training, Major Cameron was posted to the Royal Canadian Dragoons as a Tank Troop Leader.

In 2002, Major Cameron was selected to attend the Land Force Technical Staff Program. Upon graduation in 2003, he was posted to Land Force Trials and Evaluation Unit as the Armour Trials Officer.

In 2005, Major Cameron was selected to attend Post Graduate Training in the United Kingdom. Upon graduation from Loughborough University with a Master’s of Science in Ergonomics / Human Factors in 2006, he returned to Land Forces Trials and Evaluations Unit, during this time he completed training at the Canadian Army Command and Staff College.

In 2011, Major Cameron was posted to the Directorate of Land Requirements in Ottawa where he worked on a variety of Armoured Fighting Vehicle Systems and with Military Ergonomics.

Major Cameron was appointed Commanding Officer of Canadian Army Trial and Evaluation Unit in July 2013.  He was posted to the Department of Applied Military Science at the Royal Military College of Canada as Directing Staff Aug 2015 and completed the Marine Corps Command and Staff College Distance Education Program in June 2016.

In June 2017 Major Cameron became an Assistant Professor at the Royal Military College of Canada and in Sep was assigned the duties of Chief Instructor at the Department of Applied Military Science.
