CCE researchers involved in a project supported by NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme.

2023-10-27

Dr. Mariya Marinova, Dr. Barbara Zeeb and Dr. Frank Zeman will collaborate with researchers from Czech Republic, Germany, Ukraine, and USA in the frame of the project “Mitigation of climate change through advanced phytotechnology for military lands”. The main goal is to regenerate former military sites while mitigating climate change by implementing advanced Miscathus x giganteus phytotechnology on complex contaminated military lands in Ukraine. The physicochemical conversion of biomass waste to ensure by-product valorization will also be considered.

The project is led by Dr. Valentina Pidlisnyuk from Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Usti nad Labem (Czech Republic).

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering is leading sub-project 3: “Valorization of by-products from gasification and pyrolysis”. The main activities of the sub-project are: (i) conversion of syngas and bio-oil into value-added products, (ii) metal recovery/stabilization from impacted biochar.

The project officially started on 27 September 2023 for a duration of three years. Additional information can be found on the project website: https://milclimatech.wasten.cz/

RMCC Graduates Start their MD Journeys at uOttawa

2019-11-14

The University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine MD Program accepted four Military Medical Training Plan (MMTP) students into the MD2023 class this year.
All four of those students are RMCC graduates.  The picture depicts the students at the White Coat Ceremony held on 13 September, 2019. The White Coat Ceremony is a rite of passage for medical students. Our entire class recites the Professional Oath and a white coat is placed on each of our shoulders signifying our entrance into the medical profession and a lifelong journey of learning.

In the picture, from left to right, are:

1. Victor Pak, graduated in 2002 with a B.A. Political Science.
2. Sabra King (nee Gardner), graduated in 2013 with a B.Sc. Chemistry.
3. Sandy Lanzinger (nee Edmison), graduated in 2014 with a B.Sc. Chemistry.
4. Vincent Lamframboise, graduated in 2011 with a B.Eng. Chemical Engineering.

Congratulations and good luck to our future doctors!

Dr Chan and his Students Attended the 27th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan.

Dr. Paul Chan and his students attended the 27th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan in May 2019.

Lt(N) Jae Song presented his paper entitled "Best-Estimate Plus Uncertainty Analysis of CANDU Fuel Reliability Using Manufacturing Data and Simulated Core Data" and won the best presentation award in front of 22 countries.  Jason is a PhD student in nuclear engineering in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.  His co-supervisors are Drs. Paul Chan, Hugues W. Bonin and Mahesh Pandey (University of Waterloo).

Dr. Chan is looking for graduate students with mechanical and fluid dynamic background. Contact paul.chan@rmc-cmr.ca for more information.
