Your poster/email/letter of solicitation represents the first time participants are invited to participate in the study. This does NOT need to include all of the information presented in the consent form. However, key elements are important to include to provide participants with enough information to start engaging in the research.
- Ensure the purpose of the study is described briefly and in clear, non-technical language.
- Ensure key participation details are provided at a high level (e.g., general activity, approximate time commitment).
- Ensure it is clear that participation is voluntary.
- Ensure the letter indicates that full study details will be provided in the consent form prior to participation.
- Ensure an updated invitation is provided in both official languages if bilingual respondents are being recruited.
- If all or parts of the study will only be conducted in one language, ensure this is clearly indicated.
- Ensure any conflicts of interest are identified.
- Ensure any aspects of the study that a reasonable person might consider when deciding whether to participate (e.g., lack of anonymity, audio/video recording, multiple sessions) are clearly stated.
- Ensure basic contact information for the research team is provided for questions about the study.
- Ensure that if potential participants have questions regarding the ethical conduct of the study, they are directed to contact the Chair of the Research Ethics Board, Dr. Adelheid Nicol (reb-cer@rmc-cmr.ca).
