Eligibility

Eligibility for Undergraduate and Graduate StudiesNote 1 & 2

Eligible individuals come from all backgrounds

Applicants must meet one of the following conditions to be eligible to apply to RMC:

  • Be an applicant to a subsidized education entry program of the Canadian Armed Forces such as the ROTP
  • Be a current serving member of the CAF and have completed basic MOSID (Military Occupational Structure Indication Code) training.
    • CAF members who have not completed their basic MOSID qualification may apply with the written recommendation of their unit or formation Commander: or,
  • Be a released member of the CAF who has completed their basic MOSID qualifications (as per Article 15.01 of the Queen’s Regulations and Orders (QR&O's).
    • A CAF member who has been released:
      • under item 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 2a or 2b is inadmissible to RMC, regardless of meeting any other eligibility requirements, unless, the member has since been re-enrolled.
      • under item 5d is inadmissible to RMC for at least three years from the date of release, regardless of meeting any other eligibility requirements, unless, the member has since been re-enrolled.
      • under item 5e is inadmissible to RMC for at least three years from the date of release, regardless of meeting any other eligibility requirements, unless, the member has since been re-enrolled.  If the member was released only because their insufficient academic standing, where they were no longer academically admissible to their programme of study at RMC, then the minimum three year waiting period does not apply.
      • under item 5f is inadmissible to RMC for at least five years from the date of release, regardless of meeting any other eligibility requirements, unless, the member has since been re-enrolled: or
  • Be an Term or Indeterminate employee of the Department of National Defence (DND), or another Federal government department (see Note 2): or,
  • Be a spouse of a Regular Force member of the CAF (see Note 2).
Undergraduate Studies Entry

Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP)

The ROTP offers applicants the opportunity of combining their academic and career goals.  Under the ROTP candidates will be enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in a military occupation of their choosing and they will begin their military career by completing an undergraduate university programme at RMC, or the Canadian civilian university of their choice.  The ROTP is open to:

  • High school students;
  • College/University students.

If you are a current member of the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves, you must complete a Component Transfer to the ROTP to start your application process. 

Members of the CAF, their Spouses and Canadian Federal Government Employees

RMC offers a variety of academic programmes and educational opportunities to all those who meet the Eligibility requirements of RMC.

Effective 7 September 2021, any CAF member taking a degree that is open to the Cadets will also be required to pass the mandatory athletics and language courses unless they have been granted legacy rights by Senate.

As of 7 September 2021, non-military students will not be allowed to take any degree open to the Cadets unless they have been granted legacy rights by Senate.;

Current CAF members may be interested in completing their undergraduate degree at RMC through several CAF sponsored subsidized programmes such as:

  • University Training Plan – Non Commissioned Members (UTPNCM)
  • Initial Baccalaureate Degree Programme (IBDP)
  • Continuing Education Officer Training Plan (CEOTP)
  • Any other DND sponsored programmes the CAF may launch from time to time;

Graduate Studies

Graduate Studies

The Division of Graduate Studies provides advanced degree programmes at the Masters and Doctoral levels for postgraduate students in key areas of engineering, humanities, social sciences and science. The programmes of Graduate Studies at RMC are open to officers of the Canadian Armed Forces and to civilians.
